Espresso Works Prior now Display Turns Off and OnUpdated 7 months ago

Issue: Espresso Display Suddenly Turns Off and On

If your Espresso Display was working perfectly before but has recently started turning off and on intermittently, the most common cause is a failing or faulty cable. Over time, USB-C cables can wear out or become damaged, especially if they are bent or stressed frequently. A damaged cable can lead to inconsistent power or video signal transmission, causing the display to power cycle (turn on and off) repeatedly.

Main Cause: Failing USB-C Cable

When the USB-C cable that connects your Espresso Display to your device begins to fail, it may struggle to maintain a stable connection for power or video signals. This can result in the display momentarily losing power or disconnecting from the device, leading to frequent turn-offs and turn-ons.

How to Identify a Failing Cable

Here are some signs that indicate your USB-C cable may be failing:

  • Intermittent connection: The display turns off and on unpredictably, often when the cable is moved or adjusted.
  • Flickering screen: You may notice the screen flickering, which indicates a weak or unstable connection.
  • Physical wear: The cable may show signs of wear, such as fraying, bending, or visible damage to the connector ends.

Solution: Replace the USB-C Cable

To resolve the issue, we recommend replacing the USB-C cable with a new, high-quality cable that supports both power and video output. Using a certified cable ensures stable performance and prevents future connectivity problems.

Steps to Replace the Cable:

  1. Purchase a Replacement Cable: Make sure to get a USB-C cable that supports video output (DisplayPort Alt Mode) and power delivery.
  2. Disconnect the Old Cable: Safely disconnect the existing USB-C cable from both your device and the Espresso Display.
  3. Connect the New Cable: Plug the new USB-C cable into the Espresso Display and your device.
  4. Test the Connection: Power on your device and the Espresso Display to check if the issue is resolved.

Troubleshooting If the Issue Persists

If replacing the cable doesn’t resolve the issue, try the following additional steps:

  • Test with Another Device: Connect your Espresso Display to another device using the new cable to rule out issues with your original device.
  • Check for Software Updates: Ensure that your device’s operating system, drivers, and firmware are up to date, as outdated software can sometimes cause connectivity issues.
  • Inspect the Ports: Check both the USB-C port on your device and the Espresso Display for any debris or damage that could be affecting the connection.
